WHY SOLVE THE PROBLEM THROUGH A PLEDGE?

The Knowledge Pledge was inspired by the Giving Pledge. It seems reasonable that if successful people can promise to give away billions of dollars, it should be relatively easy for them to also promise to share which knowledge has helped them in life. We believe that sharing how education and knowledge contribute to a successful life has the potential to impact many more people than giving money away. We also believe that organizations succeed because their employees effectively use knowledge, so it is in their interest to tell students (future employees) the knowledge they need to learn. The Knowledge Pledge hopes to:

– Inspire conversation, discussions and action about linking schoolwork to life in the real world.

– Make linking learning to life the norm for how students are educated.

– Make giving feedback to students a social norm for graduates.

– Create a centralized database of how schoolwork has contributed to successful people’s achievements.

We live in an exciting time of change in education where innovative approaches and technology are bringing us closer to the goal of preparing all students with the knowledge and skills they need when they graduate. People who are successful and employers that apply knowledge to make their organizations successful can make a lasting, positive impact on education simply by sharing how they have used schoolwork.
